Cuando un escarabajo infestado toca una herida de poda fresca, puede infectar a un árbol. La mayoría de los encinos infectados con esta enfermedad mueren en varios meses.

Ustéd puede prevenir el marchitamiento del encino al pintar cada herida de poda inmediatamente después de cortar una rama. Rocíe apenas termine de cortar para que no llegue un escarabajo primero. Cubra la herida completa con una capa leve de pintura. Uno puede comprar pintura para podas, también llamada “tree wound dressing,” en la mayoría de las ferreterías y tiendas de jardinería.

Oak wilt is a devastating tree disease that kills oak trees in the Hill Country. It’s caused by a fungus carried by beetles. When an infected beetle lands on a fresh pruning cut, it can infect the tree. Most oak trees infected with oak wilt die within a few months.

You can prevent oak wilt by painting fresh pruning wounds immediately after you cut the branch. Spray right away so the beetles don’t get there first! Cover the entire wound with a thin coating of paint. You can buy pruning paint, also called “tree wound dressing,” at most hardware or garden supply stores.
